To make two scrumptious Croque Monsieur sandwiches, set aside 15 minutes for prep, 10 minutes for cooking, and get the following ingredients:
- Four slices of white bread
- Two slices of baked ham
- 1.8 ounces of butter
- A tablespoon of flour
- About 3 fluid ounces of milk
- Approximately 3 ounces of grated gruyere cheese
- Nutmeg for grating
- Two tablespoons of dijon mustard
Time for Cheese and Bechamel
Slice the bread thinly into 4 slices and cut off the crust, then place the slices onto a prepared oven tray. Melt the butter and brush one side of the bread with melted butter. Bake the bread until golden and crisp on the buttered side. In the meantime, make the bechamel by putting the remaining butter in a saucepan and cooking over medium-low heat.
