Croque Monsieur is a fancier and more posh version of a grilled cheese sandwich or a cheese toastie that originated in Britain. The trick to making this sandwich as tasty as can be is in the attention to detail and choosing the right ingredients!
The Ingredients
To make two scrumptious Croque Monsieur sandwiches, set aside 15 minutes for prep, 10 minutes for cooking, and get the following ingredients:
- Four slices of white bread
- Two slices of baked ham
- 1.8 ounces of butter
- A tablespoon of flour
- About 3 fluid ounces of milk
- Approximately 3 ounces of grated gruyere cheese
- Nutmeg for grating
- Two tablespoons of dijon mustard
Time for Cheese and Bechamel
Slice the bread thinly into 4 slices and cut off the crust, then place the slices onto a prepared oven tray. Melt the butter and brush one side of the bread with melted butter.
